even tho i got aoe2hd steam version installed and followed the instructions carefully.
The compatibility patch allows you to play the "old" version of aoe2 with your steam installation, so that's normal.
It IS the common voobly version. There are some features that aren't available, like changeable control group hotkeys, but for the most part it works much better than the HD version.
At step 14 when you select that folder it automatically adds "/New Folder" at the end of the line just delete it and it will be alright.

So I go through all the steps from above and step 12 will not load for me? Any thoughts? ty

Falhou!
DirectPlay failed to load properly. This is probably an OS installation bug. You might need to reinstall your operating system. Windows 8.1 and later users can install DirectPlay through Control Panel -> Programs -> Turns Windows features on or off -> Legacy Components -> DirectPlay.
and step 13 doesnt happen. The setup wizard doesnt come up.
I've also tried manually downloading it here [You must login to view link] but the page doesnt seem to work.
any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
EDIT
the patch is here now: [You must login to view link]
